The Cure - In Between Days (US 12 Inch / 1985)

01 In Between Days (Vocal / LP Version) 2:55
02 In Between Days (Extended Version) 4:00
03 Stop Dead 4:00

Happy 4th Of July / Independence Day America! I was inspired to post this after hearing the extended mix of it over on one of my 'favorite' 80's Music / Video Facebook groups. I got to thinking about the last time I actually saw this posted on a blog and I can say I don't remember (of recent). Well, here you are. Just the tracks from the release and all the HQ scanned art from my 12 inch which is now up for sale on Discogs. I know, don't sell it, but I have a ton of Cure and this is still fetching some good $$! Enjoy!

  1. Hello! Great blog, tons of cool music. I was wondering if you transferred your stuff directly from the original vinyl releases or used compact disc versions? Just curious since I'm sort of an audio nerd!

    1. Thanks! Some come from direct vinyl recording and others from CD remasters. All the tracks I use go through several audio applications to clear up loose ends (edits, pops & clicks and equalizing) This particular release used the remastered CD as the source and 'Retro Active 4' as a source for the extended version. When I record vinyl, I use a Technics 1200 with a high end Ortofon cartridge. It's then recorded through Adobe Audition 6 and fixed/repaired if needed. I usually don't list all my 'equipment used' like a few of the other blogs do. LMK your feelings regarding CD/Vinyl recording. As much as I'm a novice at this (somewhat), I'm always curious what others feel could make things better. On a side note, I've already had the FLAC/Lossless discussion, so I'd prefer to stay out of that water again! lol! Thanks for the comment.

    2. Thanks for the response. I don't personally have a big preference of vinyl versus CD, I was more just interested in how you went about it! I've collected both CDs and LPs and I think each has their own merits. The variations from one pressing to another are pretty remarkable sometimes when I've compared them A to B side by side. I remember being very impressed with German and Japanese vinyl back when I was a collector in terms of the sound quality compared to the US counterparts. As for CDs, the variations are too numerous to count sometimes! The original CDs I got in the 1980s were generally pretty hit or miss. The bass seemed to be lacking quite a bit not to mention that sort of three dimensional quality of good analog. That said, I think CDs started improving in the 1990s. Guess the equipment got a little better and maybe the mastering engineers got more used to the new format. At least that's my general impression of it. Anyway, formats aside, I mostly just like interesting music! So thanks for the good stuff you're posting. Much appreciated.

      Best wishes,
      JAS

One day we will wake up and The Cure, Depeche Mode, Metallica and others will return to their original sound that we all fell in love with. Until we will continue to cherish these wonderful rips you bring us to remind us of simpler times!

    Thank you yet again!

    1. Nice! Thanks F.H. I had downloaded it, but this will be nice for the group. I think I'm going to share it over on one of the B.O.L. posts too. A friend from Australia was asking me about it! :)

Yeah, this is one of those rare ones, where I'm actually gonna keep the FLAC version ...

      ;-D

      B.O.L. post?

  6. Why oh why does the Join The Dots B-side box set not include the Extended Version of "In Between Days" - or for that matter why isn't there a true box set for all the extended mixes for The Cure discography. I have this on vinyl, somewhere, packed away. Thanks for posting!!

    1. Thanks! Yes, I know what you speak of and wish all their 12 inch releases would actually get re-issued in a box similar to what Duran Duran did with their singles!
