Depeche Mode - Behind The Wheel-Route 66 (Megamix) (US 12 Inch / 1988)

01 Behind The Wheel - Route 66 (Megamix) 7:46
02 Behind The Wheel - Route 66 (Megadub) 6:12
03 Behind The Wheel (Shep Pettibone Extended Remix) 5:53
04 Behind The Wheel - Route 66 (Beatmasters Mix) 7:57

About a month or so past, I was invited to do a guest DJ spot. It was the 25th anniversary of Mad Planet, a club I had residency at for 18 years. For the life of me I couldn't find a 'recorded' version of this megamix. Of course, I did download an mp3 via the internet, but it had me miffed knowing that I didn't have my own quality version of it. Problem solved.

After scouring the entire DM Discogs site and trolling through all (78) Behind The Wheel listings, I realized that the megamix has only been released on the US 12 Inch. Perhaps some of you bigger DM fans can find an alternate and let me know. Either way, I have recorded all the versions here from the vinyl. I was going to use the CDS of 'Behind' from Box Set 4 of the DM singles for the two b-side versions, but they are full on brickwalled! All art is taken from my 12 inch as well. Enjoy!

Behind The Wheel-Route 66: Megamix

  1. Damn, you're right! I hadn't noticed the two missing versions here. I must've had an import version. Thanks especially for providing the Megadub.

    1. You're welcome! A friend of mine mentioned that the megamix was previously released on a Behind The Wheel promo CD, but the dub had not been put on disc, so...there you go. Thanks again for the comment. I see that you are a fan of the 'Monster Blog' too. I recently supported your comment regarding the Wire Train post! :)

Fitting link, I hope. Can't hurt to have one more
Dirty Funker - Behind The Wheel!

    3. another small DM Tribute ... only 8 tracks but great names from the current EBM/Industrial/Goth scene:

  2. love anything by Depeche!!! I think I have just about anything by them including these mixes - but just on some bootleg comps and surely in lesser quality than your rip!!!

Hope to see more like this!

    thank you

    1. Your welcome! Thanks as always for taking time to comment!

  3. Here are some rare DM bootlegs ... feel free to share!

Depeche Mode - Rareties Of Mode (2001)
includes some Martin L. Gore and Alan Wilder Demos!!!

    and many more bootlegs:

    1. Woah...awesome! Thanks for posting and sharing. I have so much DM, I don't know where to start!

    2. -= Faith Healer =-October 30, 2015 at 4:28 AM

lol ... same here ... I just can't get enough!

The Ultra Rare Trax series is very low quality (missing lower EQ) but I added it for completion purposes

    3. All good! Those who grab it can decide. Thanks again!

  4. The Megamix has only ever been available in full quality digital on the original US promo CD, although it was made available on a Mute MP3 compilation:

AFAIK, the Megadub has never been available in digital format, so thank you very much for this!

    1. You're welcome! Thanks for the comment and digging into the research!

    2. Both the megamix and megadub did make an iTunes AAC compilation in 2006 under "The Complete Depeche Mode" but is no longer on the US or Canadian iTunes (128AAC) though I have not been able to find a copy yet.

    3. Thank you for the information!

    4. As soon as I find a copy of this compilation, I will let you know and figure out how to share the megadub. I see someone already shared the megamix. ;)

    5. Hello:

I was able to locate and obtain the megadub that is from this CD. I noticed there is a 9 second differential. I put the 2 tracks in Adobe Audition (it looks to be a speed or pitch adjustment)?

    6. Yes, it was shared in a previous post. It's from CD and it was in a VBR format.

    7. Very nice, regarding the 'Lust Mixes'. I find it deeply frustrating to always see that fluctuation in tracks by mere seconds. I appreciate you going the extra mile to seek this out and resolve the issues at hand. Feel free to paost a link for that here if you are up for sharing! Thanks again.

    8. Sure thing. I uploaded the entire file (as listed previously with the 14 tracks) as is.

I hope I did that right.

    9. All good! Thank you for uploading and sharing it!

    10. No problem. Your blog/site is helping to discover new gems!

  5. Hey...I did not know this! I have the promo cd! Who knew it was not available! I should dig it out.....

    1. Dig it out for certain! Feel free to share a zip folder of it if you like (wink, wink)! ;)

    2. Hey...I didn't forget ...found the CD! I don't have any file sharing accounts though...

    3. Actually, take the file and zip it, then go to here and load's free. Once it's loaded it will give you a share code. Couldn't be easier. Thanks! Check it out here...

    1. This is awesome! I originally paid top $$ for all the original Boytronic releases and then they were re-released in early 2000. I bought those as well! Thanks for sharing the link! I don't have this latest 2015 deluxe package. BTW, I'm friends with Paul Dakeyne on FB and hope he doesn't mind this link. All good! ;)

    3. 'You' was always a favorite, but of late, I have been really partial to 'You're The One Who Stays'. I did my own edit of that track for DJing purposes back sometime.

  7. -= Faith Healer =-November 5, 2015 at 4:08 PM

I figured you would enjoy this as much as I do! It's obvious we have similar taste in music.

Would love to hear your remix too!

    1. Right?! The remix I did was just an edit of the beginning.I wanted the track to hit instead of wander in.

  8. -= Faith Healer =-November 5, 2015 at 4:09 PM

btw, awesom that you're friends with Dakeyne ... what a legend!

    1. Super nice guy and a contributor to one of the closed friends music groups I'm involved with on FB!

    2. -= Faith Healer =-November 6, 2015 at 4:22 PM

      very cool!!!

  9. BtW US Promo.

Not highest bit rate, but it's what I've got.

  10. I have the 12" of this. Haven't been able to listen to it for... a long time. Thanks!

  11. Excellent, from that post, 2015. Thanks.

    1. Nice! Thank you for sharing! BTW, I love the Magnolia's if your name is regarding the band. ;)

  12. Kevin Smith reference, in a Jay & Silent Bob movie -- "Are you the guy who called us Clown Shoes?"
But I will look into Magnolias and see if I remember hearing them, now

    1. Ha...good one. It's been a while since I have watched any of his movies, 'Clerks' being the classic!
